Equipment Overview

The Komatsu D475A is an extra-large mining dozer built for the most demanding overburden and ripping work, part of Komatsu’s D475 large dozer family for the Australian and New Zealand market. It has 664 kW (890 hp) of net forward power, an operating weight of 115,300 kg with the dual-tilt U dozer blade and giant ripper fitted, and a 34.4 m³ blade capacity, suited to mine site production dozing, dragline area clean-up, and ripping solid rock.

Power comes from the Komatsu SAA12V140E-7 engine, a V12, 30.48-litre unit that is U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final emissions certified and delivers 722 kW (968 hp) in reverse — more than 15% above forward power — for faster cycle times. The Komatsu TORQFLOW transmission pairs a lock-up torque converter with a planetary gear, multiple-disc-clutch gearbox, while wet multiple-disc steering clutches and brakes, spring-loaded and hydraulically released, provide smooth steering. A giant variable single-shank ripper or a hydraulically controlled three-shank ripper is available for tough ripping applications.
