Equipment Overview
The Volvo A45 is an articulated dump truck built for off-road hauling across broken, uneven ground, the largest in Volvo’s articulated hauler range above the A30, A35, and A40. It carries a 42,000 kg rated payload and a 25.5 m³ heaped body, producing 365 kW of gross power, suited to quarrying, mining, and large-scale construction hauling.
Power comes from a Volvo D16F engine rated at 365 kW at 1,900 rpm, with 2,600 N·m of peak torque at 1,000 rpm. A new Volvo drivetrain with reinforced axles handles the higher torque and stress of the larger payload, and 100% differential locks are available across all axles for difficult terrain. Wet brakes on all wheels combine with the Volvo Engine Brake and a downhill speed control function to hold a constant speed on descents, reducing the need for the retarder pedal.
