Equipment Overview

The CAT 627 is a twin-powered open bowl wheel tractor-scraper built for high-rolling-resistance and steep-grade work, sitting in the middle of Caterpillar’s open bowl range between the single-engine 621 and the larger 637. It has a heaped capacity of 18.4 cubic metres and an empty operating weight of around 41 tonnes, suited to bulk earthmoving on civil construction sites, road and highway subgrade work, dam and levee construction, and overburden stripping on mine sites.

A Cat C13 engine drives the tractor at 304 kW (407 hp), while a second Cat C9.3 engine drives the scraper at 216 kW (290 hp); both meet emission levels equivalent to U.S. EPA Tier 2/EU Stage II or U.S. EPA Tier 3/EU Stage III. Each unit has its own eight- and four-speed powershift transmission, so both the tractor and scraper axles are independently driven rather than the scraper trailing as dead weight.
