Equipment Overview
The CAT 324 Long Reach Excavator is a 29-tonne excavator built on the CAT 324D platform and fitted with an extended boom and arm for work that standard-reach machines can’t get close enough to, including river and canal dredging, slope and embankment finishing, drainage work and settling pond clean-out. The reinforced front linkage and counterweight keep the machine stable when working at full extension, and a long undercarriage adds further stability during extended-reach digging.
Power comes from a Cat C7 ACERT engine producing 124 kW, tuned for the steady, controlled movements that long-reach dredging and fine grading demand rather than maximum digging force. Boom and stick regeneration circuits and a hydraulic cross-sensing system give smooth, precise control at extended reach, and fine swing control helps with accurate placement when working with ditch-cleaning buckets and other specialist attachments.
